On Sept. 17, 2015, the AACR partnered with more than 300 institutions and advocacy organizations representing researchers, clinicians, survivors, and other advocacy groups to host the third-annual Rally for Medical Research Hill Day. With Congress debating how to fund the government into fiscal year (FY) 2016 and what setting budgetary priorities for the coming year, this was a critical time to emphasize the importance of federal investment in the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
For the Hill Day, hundreds of advocates from 40 states and Washington, D.C. converged on Capitol Hill to meet with more than 200 House and Senate Offices—half of which were with a Member of Congress directly—to stress the importance of increasing our Nation's investment in medical research to the pace of progress against a number of diseases including cancer.
