Rally for Medical Research 2015

The Rally for Medical Research began with a reception on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, Sept. 16, featuring remarks from NIH Director Dr. Francis Collins and Senators Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), and Patty Murray (D-Wash.). The Senators all emphasized the impact of NIH funding on the health and economy of the United States, and Dr. Collins specifically called out the fact that without increased investment in the NIH today, many promising treatments could be left on the table by saying, "…Cures can't wait…biomedical research can't wait." These remarks were echoed by Mary Woolley of Research!America and patient advocates from the American Heart Association and the Alzheimer's Association of America, who presented their own perspectives about the impact of biomedical research.
